Do Good Anyway

Thanks to Tim on Facebook, and Path to Recovery (which has some inspirational things, if you can winnow out the touchy-feely psycho-babble bull and relativism).

PASS IT ON

With thanks to Bob's Bites and Swampie at A1A South.

Kick the bastards OUT.

Of course, the Ruling Class will never let this happen...at least not without (probably bloody) Revolution on the part of those they rule. Well, someone said the Tree of Liberty must be refreshed with the blood of Patriots, didn't he? Mr. Jefferson knew only too well that this day might come...

Tuesday with Thomas

Our retreat was everything it was created to be, and as usual I am STILL a bit...out of sync. It isn't as far off my routine as it is off Duffy's, but evidently it doesn't take much to throw me out of whack these days. I may post a picture or 2 later, depends on how much time I have and whether I can make my brain take orders.

Tuesdays are the days I read, post, and comment on Thomas Sowell's most recent column, and today is no exception. With one exception. My brain isn't taking orders just yet, and I have no comment on this column - I merely ask that you read it, to get the reasoning behind this Wisdom:

"The courts should not be the only line of defense. Common decency should be the first line of defense..."

For now, I'm getting some coffee and a bite to eat. Thanks for stopping by!

Retreat

In order to keep my sanity and sense, I help lead a personal growth Retreat every six months. This is then. Will return Sunday afternoon, but have no idea when I'll be posting again, as My Chief has Mondays off. Might jump back here then, but might still be dealing with Retreat Headache...just have to wait and see. Hope your weekend is productive and restful.

See you next week!

Tinnitus --- WHAT???

Being the doctor-averse lil broad that I am, I have diagnosed my own affliction. Now I need to figure out what to do about it. My particular 'ringing' seems to be a bit like the computer being on all the time, but with a slightly different pitch. *sigh*

Dr. Gott's column has been mentioning Lypo-Flavonoid for quite some time, but I didn't pay much attention after I told My Chief about it...because HIS tinnitus has been diagnosed for several years. Mine was intermittent and didn't interfere with anything, so I ignored it. Now it interferes with my hearing more often than not. So I'll be checking the price of this stuff, and having a visit with my doc in the near future. Not in the next WEEK, as I'm covered up prepping to lead a Retreat...but NEAR future, anyway.

Think I'll go find something to eat, y'all have a FINE day, and thanks for stopping by! Stay warm - ya lucky dogs...

The 912 Project

I bet you've heard about the Tea Parties and the 912 Project. Here's some coverage - by FoxNewsChannel, no surprise - of the march on Washington today. I would love to have been there, and at some time in the future I may get to join one of these, but the time was not now for me. I walk with them in spirit, though I know how little that helps.

The 912 Project marches on Washington -- "Turn this thing around."

"...we females want to talk all the time about everything. Conflict is just another excuse to gab."

Betsy Hart at JewishWorldReview.com:

One of my own best women friends recently sent to me a piece that her husband (without comment, it turns out!) had e-mailed to her: "How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It" by Barbara Graham from O, the Oprah Magazine. Its subtitle says it all: "Forget everything you've heard about frankness, sharing your feelings, getting him to express his. Research into the functions of the male mind makes it clear that discussion may be the fastest way to shut down communication. (Oh, you noticed that, have you?)"

Graham sat down with psychotherapists Patricia Love and Steven Stosny. They teach extensively on gender differences, and last year co-wrote "How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It."

Stosny explains that "talking about feelings, which is soothing to women, makes men physically uncomfortable. There's literally more blood flow to the muscles. They get fidgety and women think they're not listening."

"Durh!" Any woman worth her salt knows men are different than women and should NEVER be required to replace the women who are close to her in her life, just as any man worth his salt will not expect his woman to be his 'buddy.'

Now, if we could convince the super-intellectuals that there are deeply ingrained differences in the genders, that each of us is part of the Whole, not The Same, we'd be MUCH better off as a Society...not to mention that we'd have MUCH happier marriages AND children.

On character

I've had a bit of a lesson in gossip and tale-telling this week. We all know, don't we, that anything we say can be twisted by someone else and turned into something ugly, even when what was said was what we thought of as merely informational. Many of the people I know should be politicians, because they're VERY GOOD at it.

Rabbi Twerski's lesson this morning seems applicable in my situation. Thanks for the reminder, Rabbi!

If you wish to know the true mettle of a person, look at his disciples. The true nature of a person is revealed in those whom he taught. Their character, their behavior and their belief reflect that of the teacher.

Before accepting anyone as authoritative on how one should live, check into how he has lived his life.

Truly humble people shun acclaim.

Reading those last columns left an icky taste in my mouth. Rabbi Twersky has written something that washes it right out.

I'm a member of a group that works at combating the Seven Deadly Sins - character defects - in ourselves. Rabbi Twersky's work has been of great assistance to me, and to a few others who've discovered it.

He could give lessons to our Elected Officials, but most lessons of this kind can't be learned without a willingness to change, and Politicians in general only want US to change, not themselves.

Read it anyway, it says some wonderful things about my favorite Hero of the Bible - Moses.

What I've learned that Shamu's trainer also knows

I've mentioned here the retreats we lead a couple times a year, using what we call The Process. I took a break from painting (yes, again, and will get back to it soon as I post this), read the Lori Borgman column at JewishWorldReview.com, and realize the column topic is something we cover on those retreats. I hope it makes you smile!

Retreat Weekend

This used to be the Girl Scout camp in Clay County. My very favorite place to "cabin" (I don't 'camp' anymore), and it's where we hold our retreats. The weather was perfect! THIS weekend's gonna be miserable hot, so we got it done just in the nick of time. The first pic was taken last Friday, the second was on Saturday and we were so glad for the bit of cloud cover. The last is Handsome Hubby getting breakfast from our good friends Angie and Scott, who fixed french toast and bacon both mornings. Yummo!

Now that I've had a little break - again - I better get back to it. If you'd like to see more pictures, they're at the MySpace link in my sidebar. Thanks for stopping by!
