The REAL Moon Walk

We lived in southern Alberta, Canada, 20 miles from the closest grocery store, 18 miles of which was dirt road. The television was on a shelf in the corner of the living/dining room. It was black and white, and there were knobs on it, no remote control in those days.

I am still in awe.

Pixie's Great Uncle used to wake me to watch every launch with him. Those of you here close to the Space Coast may not understand, but they were DAMN early for kids living in the Mountain Time Zone. Thankfully, the Walk itself was a bit later in the day.

Do YOU remember?

Mitch Albom: We yawned as we took our places around the dining tables. Someone handed out Popsicles. Then, as we licked the icy treats, our tongues turning purple or raspberry, we watched a big black-and-white TV set. The reception wasn't great in the woods of summer camp. And since the picture was coming from the moon, it was particularly fuzzy.

Still, we heard a tinny voice say "…one giant leap for mankind" and when the shadowy spaceman seemed settled on ground, we all clapped, because it felt like that's what we should do, clap for something great.

I took a picture of that landing and Neil Armstrong's first step on a little black and white TV.

Proud, proud moment, for "man", "mankind" and our nation.

Having viewed all of the early spacecraft and rockets at the Houston Space Center, when they said those people had "the right stuff", no truer words were ever spoken concerning our early ventures.

Great post. Terrific new look.

Ummm, about those pictures. After three divorces, I have NO DAMN IDEA where in the hell they are, except in a trash bin, long ago...:).
